Tampere is Finland’s third-largest city and the largest inland city in the Nordics by population. Over the past decade, it has transformed from an industrial centre into a fast-growing urban hub, driven by large-scale regeneration and sustained population growth.

Tampere is developing several new neighbourhoods, creating strong demand for everyday social infrastructure such as schools and daycare facilities. Meeting this demand is critical to supporting livable, family-friendly communities as the city expands.

In 2023, Urban Partners won a competitive tender to deliver a new daycare and school facility in Ojala, in partnership with the City of Tampere. The integrated complex combines flexible, wellbeing-focused learning environments with shared community spaces, reflecting Urban Partners’ role as a long-term private partner supporting high-quality public services.

Sustainability informed every stage of the project. The building incorporates cross-laminated timber construction, geothermal heating, rooftop solar panels, and A-class energy efficiency. Outdoor areas were designed with nature at the centre, featuring extensive play spaces connected to surrounding parkland, as well as gardening plots, flower meadows, and landscaped features that foster curiosity, support wellbeing, and introduce children to biodiversity from an early age.
